Zetland Principals

James Sutherland

Jim Campbell Sutherland is Chairman of the Zetland Fiduciary Group Limited and a Director of Zetland Corporate Services Limited, Zetland International Trust Co. Limited, Zetland Corporate Services Pte Limited and Zetland European Administration Limited. He is a graduate of Edinburgh University and a Scottish Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Jim is member of the UK-based Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (TEP) and a member of the Hong Kong Securities Institute. Jim has lived in Hong Kong for more than twenty years and founded the Zetland Fiduciary Group in 1987.

Jim's background includes a period with Arthur Andersen in London where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Subsequently Jim was employed by the Grindlay Brandts merchant bank in London (now a part of ANZ Banking Group). Jim joined Wardley Limited (the merchant banking subsidiary of HSBC) in 1979 and has extensive experience in deal-making throughout Asia for more than 20 years.

In 1984, Jim was appointed Finance Director of the Universal Matchbox Toy Group and was instrumental in the flotation of the company in the New York Stock Exchange.

Mathew Davies

Mathew was born and bred in Worcestershire, England. He graduated with a B.Sc. (Jt. Hons.) in Economics and Politics from Cardiff University in 1994, before studying law at the University of Birmingham.

Mathew was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 1998, and was admitted as an attorney in the British Virgin Islands and Anguilla in 2004. Mathew is a member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS), the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and has extensive experience acting in international and domestic trust litigation. He has lectured and published articles on tax, trusts, asset protection and private international law.

Mathew has a particular interest in international asset holding structures for corporate and individual clients. Prior to taking up his position with Zetland, Mathew was head of private international law at a Caribbean based global law firm and the partner in charge of private client law at a regional UK LLP. Mathew has also worked previously in the Channel Islands (2006) as a director of a Guernsey fiduciary services firm.

Mathew was appointed Group Managing Director of Zetland in October of 2010, having joined Zetland in February 2010 as Asia Pacific regional business development manager. Mathew continues to be responsible for the development and marketing of the global range of products and services offered by the Group.
